France: Employers granted option to pay exceptional Purchasing Power Bonus to those who worked during COVID-19 epidemic

The possibility of paying the exceptional “purchasing power bonus” has been deferred this year and its payment terms have been adapted in the context of the COVID-19 epidemic. The amount of the bonus can be modulated according to several criteria that can be combined with each other, such as, for example, remuneration or level of qualification. A government ordinance dated 1 April 2020, added the working conditions related to COVID-19. For the government, this is a way to reward employees who worked during the epidemic. Thus, according to the Ministry of Labour, it is possible to increase the bonus either for those employees who were in contact with the public only or, alternatively, for all employees who continued to work during the health emergency period. The URSSAF (social security administration) points out that the employer also has the option of reserving the premium for only some of its employees, because of the working conditions associated with COVID-19.
