Colombia: Extending the Mandatory Preventive Isolation for One More Month
The Colombian government has followed the actions suggested by the World Health Organization (WHO), bearing in mind that there is not a universal measure to cope with the COVID-19 virus. In that sense, and as it was expected, Decree 1076 extended the mandatory preventive isolation from the 1st of August until the 31st of the same month, 2020.
In contrast to previous Decrees, the government allowed the free movement of professors and students, as part of a gradual and progressive return program to presential learning, the opening of the drive-in entertainment industry (under Ministry of Health and Social Protection conditions) and the SABER exam running (a standardized test required for admission to higher education in the Country).
Finally, the national government granted the local and municipal authorities the power of allowing pilot plans to reopen bars, casinos, gambling activities, sport events with no-agglomerations, cinemas and theatres, gyms, thematic parks, beauty salons, pools, saunas and public transportation; in any case, the biosecurity protocols must be followed. All in all, the reach of the abovementioned power depends on the current infection rates and the DORSCON levels (Disease Outbreak Response System Condition) of each place.
