Poland: Changes in the Employment of Ukrainian Citizens Starting July 1

On July 1st 2024, an amendment to the Act on Assistance to Citizens of Ukraine in connection with an armed conflict on the territory of this country entered into force. It extends the legal stay of Ukrainian citizens in Poland until September 30th 2025 and introduces changes to the notification that legalizes their work.

The most important changes are:

  1. Enabling (from 2025) to change temporary protection to temporary residence protection (a more advantageous option) and receiving a residence card with the annotation “Previously holder of temporary protection”;
  2. Shortening the deadline for notifying the Labour Office about employment of a citizen of Ukraine by the employer from 14 to 7 days;
  3. Introduction of the requirement to submit another notification within 7 days in the event of a change in the type of contract, position, reduction in working time or number of working hours, or salary reduction;
  4. Introducing the obligation for the citizen of Ukraine to notify the employer and serve them with the decision to grant temporary residence and work permits.
