Ireland: Changes to Irish Immigration Permission Renewals Announced
This new change in immigration law in Ireland means that immigration permissions that are due to expire starting 4 November 2024 onwards can now be renewed online using the ISD portal. Applicants across the country are no longer required to attend to their local Garda Station in person. Before this change in law, the online renewal system was only available to those who lived in Dublin, Kildare, Meath, Wicklow, Cork and Limerick.
As part of the 2025 Irish Budget, the Minister for Justice allocated an additional package of €25 million for investment in the Irish immigration system, which includes €5 million for investment in digital systems to modernise the current systems in place.
