France: New measures to prevent sexual harassment
A law passed on August 1, 2018 requires companies with at least 250 employees to appoint a point of contact responsible for guiding, informing and accompanying employees in the fight against sexual harassment and sexist behavior. In companies with a social and economic committee (“CSE”), this staff representative body must also designate a point of contact in this field among its members. Moreover, the employer has the obligation to post in the workplaces and premises where the hiring is done, the civil and criminal consequences of sexual harassment, as well as the contact details of the authorities and competent services. These provisions will come into force on a date set by a decree that is yet to be published, and no later than January 1, 2019.
