Chile: Change in the procedure for foreigners to leave Chile

On 1 October 2019, the Department of Immigration published Circular N°29, that leaves without effect Circular N°9 of the same Department (issued on 3 April 2019), and provides new measures to facilitate the departure from the country of foreigners who are processing residence permits.

Given the need to provide more agile and timely responses to users of the Department of Immigration regarding the processing of their residence permits, a new measure has been established to expedite the entry of applications of those foreigners who manifest a need to leave the national territory, invoking well-founded reasons.

The foreigner must submit a request attaching the following documents:

  • Online application voucher for residence permit, or the proof of mail sending the application.
  • Air tickets or any means of international transport, where the place of destination is stated.
  • Explanatory letter with the basis or motives for the request.

The request, together with the necessary documentation, must be sent by e-mail to permisosalida@interior.gob.cl at least 5 working days prior to departure from the country. This new measure entered into force as from 11 October 2019.
