Netherlands: Parental Leave Partly Paid from August 2022

Recently, the House of Representatives approved the legislative proposal to start paying the first 9 of the 26 weeks of parental leave. The regulation will enter into force on 2 August 2022. Parents will receive a payment from the UWV of 50% of their daily wage, up to 50% of the maximum daily wage. The paid leave must be taken within the first year after the child is born. The other 17 weeks of parental leave can still be taken until the child’s 8th birthday. This leave is unpaid, unless the employer and employees agree otherwise, within their company or collective labour agreement (CAO).
