France: Changes in the EU Blue Card Rules for Foreign Professionals

On 3^rd April 2025, the French Parliament decided to make the EU Blue Card more attractive for foreign professionals wishing to work in France.

The EU Blue Card work visa can now be obtained for employment contracts of 6 months or more (instead of 12 months previously), and the duration of the visa can be 3 months longer than the duration of the employment contract (when its duration does not exceed 2 years). This visa is, however, still reserved to highly qualified professionals and can be refused if the employer has violated any French labour law, including payment of employee taxes.
