Ireland: Changes in the Gender Pay Gap Reporting
From June 2025, employers with 50 or more employees will be required to publish a gender pay gap report. Employers need to choose a ‘snapshot date’ in June every year for collecting the relevant data and report by the corresponding date in November. This means that employers now have five months to report on their Gender Pay Gap rather than six months as in previous years.
The Gender Pay Gap Information Regulations 2022 (the “Regulations”) require employers to publish information relating to the Gender Pay Gap of their employees across a number of metrics, providing explanations for any differences in pay, and highlighting if gender-based differences in pay occur and what steps will be taken to remedy any disparity.
Initially, under the Regulations, organisations with 250 or more employees were required to report on their Gender Pay Gap. This threshold was lowered to 150 or more employees in 2024 and reduced further this year to all organisations with 50 employees or more being required to report on their Gender Pay Gap for the first time. This will mean a much larger number of employers are brought into scope for reporting.
The reporting deadline was set to November rather than December as in previous years. The date in November will depend on the ‘snapshot date,’ which an employer chooses in June. Employers must pick any date in June as their snapshot date for collecting the relevant data and report by the corresponding date in November – for example, if 1 June is an employer’s snapshot date, the report will be due on 1 November. This represents one less month for employers to compile their report from this year moving forward.
The Minister for Children, Disability, and Equality has also recently announced that a gender pay gap reporting portal will be launched in Autumn of 2025. It is expected that around 6,000 employers will be required to report into the new portal when it goes live later this year. This is likely to facilitate the comparing and contrasting of reports between employers and give greater transparency to employees.
