Romania could issue working permits to more foreign workers in 2019

According to the project the maximum number of new working permits that could be issued in 2019 for foreign workers (meaning workers outside the EU and EEC) is 13.500. This is the highest initial maximum contingent established in recent years. In 2017 the maximum contingent initially established was of 5.000 working permits, while in 2018 the maximum contingent initially established was of 7.500 working permits. The 2018 maximum contingent proved to be insufficient for the internal needs of the employment market and in August 2018 the Government supplemented the maximum contingent by 8.000 working permits.

While prior government decisions on the maximum contingent of working permits differentiated between new permanent workers, posted workers, seasonal workers, trainees, athletes and cross-border workers establishing a maximum number of working permits for each category, the new project only establishes the maximum total number of new working permits that can be issued in 2019.

Even if the maximum contingent announced for 2019 is the highest in recent years, should the recent trend on the employment market continue, this number might be raised during the year.
