Chile: Huge Discussion to Come: Bill on Reducing Working Hours per Week

On 24 July 2019, the Labour Committee of the Deputies Chamber at the Chilean Congress approved, in general terms, a bill of law that diminishes the maximum of workable hours per week, from 45 to 40.

The project was not issued by the Government. It is an initiative coming from a group of Deputies.

Now the bill of law must be discussed in particular terms. The discussion is foreseen to be quite difficult, because the project does not contemplate to proportionally diminish the associated remunerations. In fact, some congressmen are likely to challenge the project, arguing that it is unconstitutional.
