Romania: New minimum wages and guaranteed payments take effect in January 2020
According to Decision No. 935/2019, employees will benefit from higher minimum wages and guaranteed payments, as from January 2020.
The new level for the general gross minimum wage for a full time employee was set by the Government at 2.230 RON (approximately 467 EUR), a 7% increase from the previously set minimum wage. For positions that require higher education, the new level for the gross minimum wage for a full time employee who fulfills this condition is set at 2.350 RON (approx. 492 EUR).
Wages were not increased universally however; for employees in the construction sector, the gross minimum wage will remain the same at 3.000 RON (approx. 628 EUR).
Additionally, as from January 2020, employers are required to pay at least the relevant minimum wage to all full time employees, in accordance with Decision No. 935/2019.
