Poland: EU Directive on Work-Life Balance for Parents and Carers has Still Not been Implemented

Authors: Prof. Arkadiusz Sobczyk, Ph.D. and Paula Nowak

Although the deadline for implementing the EU Directive on work-life balance for parents and carers was 1 August 2022, the directive as not yet been implemented in Poland. According to the plans, the implementation of the Directive on work-life balance for parents and carers shall be combined with implementation of the EU Directive on transparent and predictable working conditions in the European Union.

The draft of the legislation implementing both of the aforementioned directives has already been announced. However, the final wording of the act is yet unsure, as the draft versions change often.

The official parliament legislation process aimed at implementing the directives has not been started yet. According to the public announcements, the act shall come into force at the earliest at the beginning of January 2023. Each day of delay in implementation makes it impossible for workers to exercise their rights under the directives.
