Argentina: New Argentine Citizenship by Investment Program
On July 31, 2025, Executive Order No. 524/2025 issued by the President was published, which enables foreign nationals who make “significant investments” in Argentina to directly apply for citizenship. The Ministry of Economy will determine which investments qualify as “significant,” while the Citizenship by Investment Program Agency will be responsible for administering the application process.
Once the Agency determines that an investment meets the requirements to be considered relevant, a thorough review procedure will be initiated. The Agency will request reports from various state agencies to assess whether the granting of citizenship could represent a threat to national security or pose potential risks to the country’s strategic interests.
The National Migration Office shall, within thirty (30) business days of receiving the report prepared by the Citizenship by Investment Program Agency, issue a reasoned decision on whether to grant Argentine citizenship.
Once the citizenship is granted, the applicant will be eligible to obtain a local tax code, allowing him/her to do business as any local citizen, as well as other benefits related to the Argentine nationality.
The Argentine citizenship program, which will not require prior residence, is a significant change in the immigration policies, which, until now, focused on naturalisation (length of residence).
