4. Trends and Specific Cases

The Swiss insurance agency “Sucva” has recently classified Uber taxi drivers as employ-ees rather than as freelance contractors.

The Sucva’s decision was based on the drivers’ inability to set price or payment type, and because the agency are threatened with consequences from Uber if they do not fulfill its requirements.

The Sucva described its decision on the classification as a “clear conclusion”. The public sector insurer, which provides compulsory on-the-job accident insurance that is required for certain high risk professions, is involved in determining whether workers are free-lance or not.

Uber has announced that it will challenge the verdict.
